there is a lot of dead going on in the garden this time of the year

Low horizon and the hills around the house

What the plains provide is a low horizon,
one that can entertain as fronts can be seen approaching from so far away.
but
the hills around the house block such a view and the storms "appear" much more quickly.
this creates a different sort of entertainment.

Perseids and clouds

This is just the beginning of the clouds.
It would seem that I will not be able to view the meteor shower.

Lamas day and perseids meteor shower

Some sky drama tonight:

the big news for the week will be Lamas day tomorrow (tuesday) and sunday night's (august 11) meteor shower.

Lamas day is the halfway mark between june's solstice and september's equinox.
this year it is tuesday 8/6.

tuesday = new moon

sunday's perseid meteor shower will be ready for action soon after sunset.

Revising noble ignitus sky

It took a couple of weeks but i am a step closer to deciding the function and structure of this blog.

i have two thought rockets to pursue here:

first, in the beginning of the week (mondays) i will put together some potential star gazing options for the week.
second, will be images of what lies "above" (or inspired from above) throughout the week. i will still include some data to help me define the images.

i often review the data to see how the forecasts change from initial expectations.

Tomatoes and this weeks stars

Today gave us a cold front and therefore some rain.
transitioning from 90s to the 80s could of meant some crazy weather but we just had some showers.

we keep a good mulch layer on the vegetables to retain moisture.
it was nice to see the rain sitting on the fruits and vegetables:

Hollyhocks

The hollyhocks have been going for a couple of weeks
but
for some reason yesterday's sky brought them to the forefront of my attention.

at 100 degrees, tomorrow just looks painful.
hoping for cloud cover!

Copper cockerel working on his tan

Nothing but hot until these clouds started to roll in (around 2p):

could feel the temperature drop each time one of these clouds covered the sun.
the morning was good for garden work, then moved indoors to bathroom remodel work.

Extra blue - the sky 7.17.13

Opening day for my new thought rocket gave me a sky that had clouds with areas of greater density
but
there will be no rain today.
